Operation Stolen Valor

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington has been working for a year to prosecute people falsely claiming veteran's benefits. There was a news story last week about the sentencing of one such defendant (see post), but I didn't focus on the part of the story that said the local U.S. Attorney's office had prosecuted eight men for related violations. NORTHWEST CRACKDOWN ON FAKE VETERANS IN “OPERATION STOLEN VALOR” -- Phony Vets Scam more than $1.4 Million and Damage Image of Honorable Veterans, press release, Sept. 21, 2007.

The lead attorney is Ronald J. Friedman, who was a UW Trial Ad instructor in 2005.
