Taking a whistleblower case he deemed a long shot, an attorney in New Jersey had the client sign an agreement that would give the attorney both statutory fees and 50% of any damages recovered. After the case was over, the plaintiff sued his lawyer over the fees, and now a judge says that they were "presumptively unreasonable."
