GOP Leaders Plan Med Mal Reform

Senate Republican leaders plan to introduce a bill next week that would cap noneconomic damages in med mal cases but -- in an attempt at compromise -- the bill would not limit liability for drug companies and medical device manufacturers. The bill will be S. 22 (the number has been saved for it). Leaders said they will also introduce a bill focused on liability of obstetricians and gynecologist.

A letter from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (April 21) outlines the GOP legislative plans, including health care. An op ed piece by Sen. Frist (April 28) argues for med mal reform.
