Kids Need Lawyers in Abuse & Neglect Cases

Prof. Kimberly Ambrose (with 3L Luke Wickham) wrote an op-ed in the P-I arguing that children should be represented in abuse and neglect cases. Washington is in the minority of states that do not provide legal counsel to all children in abuse and neglect proceedings, Seattle P-I, May 11, 2007.

By the way, May 15 is the 40th anniversary of In re Gault, 387 U.S. 1, Findlaw (1967), the landmark case that gave juveniles accused of crimes the same right to counsel enjoyed by adults. (Prof. Ambrose summarizes the case in her op-ed piece.)
