Jurist reports: California sues automakers for 'public nuisance' of global warming, Jurist - Paper Chase, Sept. 20, 2006. The suit, filed yesterday (N.D. Cal.), seeks damages under “federal common law or, in the alternative, state law,” against the GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, and Nissan for manufacturing vehicles whose emissions contribute to greenhouse gases and hence global warming.
California demands a jury trial of this novel claim.
